Alright people, lets get with the recommendations on music. I’m more of the techno/darkwave variety but I do listen to a good range outside of that. Basically I’m looking for new stuff that quite probably is good.

I actually use the google customized homepage as my homepage so being able to do quick searches of packages.gentoo.org has some advantages right away. It allows me to get to bugs for packages and forum topics within two clicks, so for me its a handy tool to have around. Its based off the original tool that Halcy0n wrote, with minor modifications but original credit goes to him, I just modified it to use a better to me interface for finding quickly what I need. If anyone wants to use it, its located at this location. You’ll need to go to your add tools page and click the add url. Add that and you’ll have a quick packages.gentoo.org search on your homepage.

It’s been a bit since I last wrote something, and thats mostly due to the fact that I’ve just been busy with work and travel. Its been a busy month for travel again. I was supposed to go down to Alabama, however that ended up not happening so I went to California instead to visit a friend and just relaxed and got away from everything.

This was then followed by a trip down to Las Vegas for the National Association of Broadcasters convention. Had a good time looking at the booth girls while down there and got some free swag as well. The best piece of course was a hat that actually is really quite nice that I’ve worn a few times, as I’ve not had a ball cap that I’ve liked in about 10 years.

Next up will be a trip to LA at the end of this month, from the 30th to the 2nd, and finally I’ll be in Milpitas for about four days the week after that. So yeah a lot of travel for me in the last month.

Then tonight, I went out with a few coworkers for dinner and their significant others. I was by far the fifth wheel and felt it but, it was nice to be invited out. The two girls were quite on odds with each other about something involving me, and it was a bit funny to me. I did however say that yes if they were to find a friend who’s single locally, that I would actually go out with them. So, I’ve sort of done the entire let people set me up thing. Should have some interesting results possibly, and if nothing out some funny stories about how badly I do with dating again.

But really that’s all thats going on with me, I need to sit down and really work on the boinc ebuild to get it updated to the 5.8.17 version that upstream considers stable, and possibly get some of the various things that don’t work currently working. Just need to start from square one.

Well, as some know I’m a bit into the financial aspects of retirement and have had many good talks with a few developers about the viability of certain things. Its actually quite interesting the knowledge we have as a group, that is dedicated to computers. Its just a slightly odd thought that there’d be a few of us who actively manage our funds seemingly well.

Recently, I decided to move some funds around in my traditional ira to get a better diversity in the international market, as previously I had none. This will better balance the funds and help in both the lean and bull times. Course it was nice to see that I’d made a 10% increase in the 6 months or so I’d had the other mutual funds, not bad for the initial steps into self guided investing. Hopefully, without moving them for quite a while I’ll continue to have a good growth with little in the way of cost associated with it.

*sigh* It seems like all the people that I’ve talked with are leaving, and the newer people I never seem to interact with. Just feels like a void is growing larger and larger. I’ll probably eventually be sucked into the void myself…

You know I continue to be frustrated at the lack of my ability to seem be helpful with anything. Its in my nature to want to help in the way that I know best, and when there is no way that I can do that then I feel even worse. Currently there are a few things that this is most apparent with, that are just driving me a bit bonkers.

The first one is Gentoo related, and the fact that somehow I’ve gotten involved with the proctors somehow. It reminds me entirely of how I came to be a developer in the first place. It just sort of happened one day that I was involved and became a developer as well. What exactly I’m doing with them I’m not sure..but like the vast majority of developers. I bounce around to keep things interesting. Have another project I need to get to as I actually use it but its one of those that have a horrible build system from the former maintainer, so I get to work on it and see what and where things need to go and force them there with an ebuild. Horray!

The second is the fact that I’ve been unable to be of any help to the woman I’m involved with. We all have rough times and there are times where no one can help, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t want to be of help, even if all it means is that I serve as a distraction to what is going on, and give you a bit of an escape. Partially this is also caused by the distance, which has shown its ugly head far more then I want but, that’s part of the trials of it, and I’m not going anywhere so you kind of get stuck with me.
