LA

January 25th, 2007

Well, its been a week of very little sleep, but its been a productive week for work at least. Hasn’t been much in the way of social because of the schedule but that isn’t unexpected. In some ways it’ll be nice to be home, but at the same time the main reason to go home is for the animals.

Not sure, perhaps I’m thinking too much, but at least I’ve managed to started to work on a few scripts to make things easier for me again. Its something enjoyable that I’ve not done in a while. Just remind me to get Gentoo reinstalled on my dev box soon..I’ve so been slacking on that.

SCALE5x

January 17th, 2007

Well folks, I’ll be down in southern California for a week next week, working grave along with a client, and hoping the situation turns out better then I expect it will be for me. However, that won’t happen so it sucks.

I will then be down in Las Angeles for SCALE on the 9-11. I’m looking forward to it as there are some interesting talks, including a few on virtualization. It also appears that theres at least a bakers dozen of developers from Gentoo that’ll be showing up. It’ll probably be close to the max we’ve ever had at one event. I think fosdem still takes that slot though. Quite a few I’ll be meeting for the first time so it should be interesting. Hopefully, we’ll not just be talking shop the entire time. In any case it should turn out to be interesting to have so many people there, as hopefully we can discuss things that we can’t online.

Its a small world

January 14th, 2007

Its amazing how small it really can be. I found out this week that nightmorph and I lived in the same area. Which isn’t really a surprise. However, what was shocking was that we both played AYSO soccer over 15 years ago in the same league. Now that’s a bit of an coincidence..and quite an unlikely event is that we did the same sport, then end up working for the same project this many years later.

The one detail that still needs to be worked out is if we were on the same team in soccer one year. That will just be the strangest of the strange. Just figured it might freak and make people think about how they might know someone online that they met many years ago without knowing it.

iPhone the proof I’m a geek

January 9th, 2007

I’m sure most people went oooh I want that phone after it was announced as its pretty rocking from the pictures etc that have been shown so far. However, how many people had their first though be…I’d love to put linux on that thing.

Yes…I did that as my first thought after it was announced that it had 4 or 8gb of space on it.

Oh and showing my mother it…she now has technolust for the device, and she’s not good with a phone at all. I think that just sealed the deal for apple bringing the new next thing in phones.

Needing a Title

January 9th, 2007

Or I could feel completely unmotivated about writing and written about 4 haphazard paragraphs so far, which would need a whole lot of revision before they even begin to form a cohesive unit. Which also seems to be about right for a few things for me currently. I can’t seem to get the motivation going after getting off of work lately. I think its partially because the days have just felt really long lately.

Yet another developer I consider a friend and associate has announced that he is retiring and watching all these people leave that I’ve formed some kind of bond with…is really draining. Everytime it happens as well I go through a time where I wonder what exactly it is that i’m doing here. Its a thankless job really, one that I plan to expand on more in the largish post I’m doing once I can get to it and get it down cohesively. Till then, I need to reinstall windows and then gentoo on my dev box again. I just need to get that done even if its a pain in the butt for the windows part. Why can’t I just use a usb drive with the driver?

Stats from the site

January 4th, 2007

Figured I’d do a quick update while I’m working on quite a decently sized rant involving gentoo in the next few days. I hope to have it well polished by the weekend.

For the last 6 months I’ve have over 1000 unique visitors averaging over 1100 for the entire time. Which I find quite amazing as I’m very specific about what I type about. Over the course of 2006 I had 11197 total unique visitors, transferring a minuscule 2.5 GB over the course of that time. Most people seem to come in via the rss feed, which no doubt explains why the adsense never gets clicked and I never will be able to donate the money. Would be interesting to see if a ad or two on the rss would actually increase that. Maybe I’ll find out once adsense for rss is out of closed testing.

Apparently, swedish girls are quite popular…since I’ve been back its been the top 2 or three hits for my site. Unfortunately for the visitors…I don’t have any picture of the cuties from the cold climates for them to view. Oh well, you’ll just have to manage with talk about linux and penguins..who also come from cold climates..but are not as cute as those aforementioned cuties.
