Well the script kiddies are about

June 27th, 2005

Seems so far that he’s tried to do a gallery exploit, from a single ip address. As that obiviously failed, he’s onto something else.

I’m getting slightly annoyed at this point. I was a good bit more upset when it started. Course he’s now using at least 2 different machines. A third is popping up but doesn’t seem to be doing much right now.

Hopefully he gets tired of trying….

Quicky note

June 17th, 2005

Back up online after charter decided to be fun and play around with the network in the area. They managed to kill the cable modem (by sending too much power through the line) and took them about 3 days to get it fixed. Glad to be back online though.

Apple’s move to Intel

June 14th, 2005

There seems to be one key thing to the move by apple to intel processors. One that most people seem to not have considered. The Cell processor for the console wars. Worldwide the ps2 sold 222 million units in fiscal year 2004.

Now considering each new ps3 will have a cell processor that only ibm can make, and there will be a huge huge demand for the PS3. Initial roll out which no doubt has already started, and given that you’ll probably have ~2% of chips that fail quality checks. Multiple millions of those processors need to be produced. Using no doublt multiple manufacturing floors. So some of the powerpc production facilities are being converted to cell. In the end this leaves less chips to be produced for apple.

Causing a neccesary debate about the viability of staying with the powerpc chip and possible shortages of processors for machines, and thus losing customers, or finding a alternative that can keep up with demand. In the end it would appear that apple has chosen to go with a supplier able to keep up with the demand for apple hardware. One would also assume that there is some kind of added discount to the production cost as well for the apple intel machines over apple powerpc machines. Adding a bit to the bottom line.

Helping out in little ways

June 7th, 2005

It seems that when i find something I enjoy as a hobby I always try to find a way to help out. For anime that was being a fansubber for two years. In gentoo, it seems to be slowly learning to program (I’m also supposed to learn C# for work, but it’ll take a bit longer). I also try to do a few ebuilds that are wanted/needed, and are within my ability to do. The programming is going into the development of a program called eper.

Eper started out as a bash script that would be slightly more accurate then most of the % based programs out there. Not to say they are bad but a bit of my perfectionism came out. I eventially hit a wall in bash that I didn’t think could be overcome, so I had to start from ground zero and rewrite the program in something that was fairly easy to learn for someone who hadn’t done much programming. Python was the choice. It also had/has the added benefit of being what emerge (what the program bases itself off of) is written in. Now I’ve gotten the program down to the debugging stages currently, which has been a lot of progress for me. I’ve also learned a lot in the process. The first version will of course be quite messy because it makes use of a lot of things python is capable of but I personally find that I did sloppily, not knowing how to do it otherwise at the time. Once I get the few glitches fixed I hope to have it released for others to use. Since there has been some people interested in it, and I think it’s generally a useful feature to have a hmm I guess i have 80% left to go.

Short with a link

It appears that this site is serious in its writing, but its so off on how it reads things that I just can’t tell.

The other odd thing is that I’ve read 4 of the books on the list. The Communist manifesto, Quotations of Chairman Mao, Das Kapital and Beyond Good and Evil.
